Sometimes it is easy to distinguish if the pain is not serious and possibly only due to muscle strain. Relax your neck, collar bone and shoulders. Relax your forehead, eyebrows, jaw, cheeks, chin. Start at the scalp and imagine it soften and relax.

Observe the feeling of the breath going into your body through your nose, down your throat and into your lungs. Notice the air that goes in feels cooler and that when you breathe out it is warmer. Then take some deeper breaths through your nose. Is it slow or quick? Shallow or deep? Then mentally scan your body from the top to the bottom for any areas of pain or tension. What happens is, my mind goes into overdrive trying to separate and understand every voice, and every word. I’m a naturally anxious person and get aggravated by hearing too many voices all at once when I’m under stress.
